Producing “green” oil on the Big Island of Hawaii
Well I suppose that this is the second post on the blog and it pertains to technology on the big island overall. The west side of the Big Island of Hawaii, with its sunny climate, is an ideal place to become a big player as an algae farming area, with it’s relatively abundant real estate and so on and so forth, at least by Hawaiian standards in general. Cellana, which is a partnership between Royal Dutch Shell and HR BioPetroleum, plans to take advantage of the potential of this unique place on earth to research and test various strains of algae and the most efficient means of growing and harvesting it for biofuel. I really think this is a good and progressive idea as we really need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, since we are importing oil and enriching the very countries who supplied the hijackers and who have anti-western schools and so on, unfortunately. I wish it were not true but just stating the facts as i see them. Should you require a world beating big island real estate then let me suggest to you this fantastic firm, as they have been conducting both commercial and residential real estate transactions for quite some time now.
For their part, the said company in question has been in operation in the algae for oil research business since 2007 so it obviously has plenty of good experience overall and on the whole, which is great.
Growing enough algae and extracting enough oil from it to make it cost effective is really the big challenge at this point in time.
All in all, the chief executive officer of Cellana, one Gabriel de Scheemaker, has been quoted as saying, “Through this we can provide a solution to a lot of the world’s problems.”
If de Scheemaker is dreaming, we need a lot more dreamers. He is realistic in adding, “A lot of the work is reducing the cost.”
How it’s done is a very interesting process indeed on the big island and will be the subject for a future article which will be upcoming soon so keep an eye out for that as well. Thanks goodness the big island has the right kind of real estate to choose from overall.
